Alexandria Technical and Community College

Alexandria Technical & Community College in Minnesota holds a formal commencement ceremony each spring to honour students completing certificates, diplomas, and degrees. The event is scheduled (for example) for Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the Runestone Community Center.

Graduates are instructed to arrive by noon, and doors open earlier, ensuring all participants are outfitted in the correct academic attire. The college provides the approved graduation gown free of charge for those who qualify.

During the ceremony, students wear the matching graduation cap and a personalized cap and gown tassel. Honor society stoles and cords are also available for eligible students (such as PTK members and military service members) and are coordinated with the regalia.

Faculty and honored guests appear in full academic regalia, wearing gowns, hoods, caps, and tassels appropriate to their academic rank and discipline. The ceremony’s focus on proper graduation gown color, coordinated cap & gown sets, and visual unity creates a polished and dignified presentation. According to ATCC’s commencement policy, students must have completed all requirements and must distinguish between participation in the ceremony and actual graduation.

The procession, degree recognition, and recessional all take place while participants are in full academic dress—gown, cap, tassel and optional stoles or cords—reinforcing the significance of the milestone.
