Clark College

Clark College holds its commencement ceremony annually, celebrating students who complete high school equivalency, certificates, associate degrees, or bachelor’s programs. According to its official Commencement page, students must sign up by early April (around April 11) to participate, and they pay a fee (around $32 plus tax) for their cap and gown package. The cap-and-gown order is handled through the campus bookstore.

From the Clark College 2023 Commencement program, the academic regalia features gown colors that vary by credential: light blue for high school/GED/HS+ completers, royal blue for associate degrees or certificates, and white for bachelor's graduates. Caps are the traditional mortarboard, and the tassel color for most students is silver and royal blue, reflecting the school colors.

Honor tassels are awarded based on academic honors: high honors wear a gold tassel, honors (GPA-based) wear a crimson tassel, and merit earners wear silver. Clark College also supports optional stoles and cords to celebrate student diversity and achievement. The 2023 commencement program lists Serape stoles (Hispanic heritage), Kente stoles (Black heritage), Rainbow pride stoles, PTK stoles (Phi Theta Kappa), athlete stoles (silver with penguin logo), and international student stoles. Cords worn may include red-white-blue for veterans, purple for students with disabilities, gold for high honors, and crimson for honors.

Faculty participating in commencement wear traditional black academic gowns, per the program. The college’s 2022 program notes that doctoral gowns have velvet facings and bars (though doctoral participation is rare at this community college).

In short, Clark College’s commencement emphasizes a color‑coded regalia system for graduates — with gown color tied to credential, tassel color signaling academic honors, and diverse stoles and cords celebrating identities and accomplishments — while faculty regalia remains traditional and conservative.
