College of Eastern Idaho

The College of Eastern Idaho (CEI) hosts its annual commencement ceremony in May at the Mountain America Center, where graduates don CEI‑blue caps and gowns as part of their academic regalia. This formal ceremony celebrates the act of graduation — distinct from merely completing course requirements — by publicly recognizing students walking across the stage to receive a diploma cover.

To participate in commencement, graduating students must apply via the CEI Registrar, confirm there are no outstanding charges, and ensure correct name and mailing address. On the day, students arrive early, collect a name card to hand to the announcer during their stage walk, and then recess out after the ceremony to meet guests. The ceremony usually lasts 1.5–2 hours and is not livestreamed or recorded by CEI.

Regarding academic regalia, CEI requires all participating students to wear CEI blue gown and cap. Gowns must be fully zipped on stage, and caps should sit squarely on the head — no pinning at the back. Associate degree students also wear hoods, with the striped side displayed on their back.

For honor distinctions, CEI provides honor cords based on GPA: silver cords for a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.749, and gold cords for 3.75 to 4.0. Veterans receive a red‑white‑blue cord to acknowledge their service. Early College students also wear a special cord. While CEI allows tassels, honor cords, and stoles, details on stole color or design (beyond honor cords) are not clearly documented in their publicly available handbooks or PDFs.
