Columbus Technical College

Columbus Technical College (CTC) holds its commencement (graduation) ceremony twice a year — in May (spring) and December (fall) — at the Columbus Civic Center. Graduates must check in via the Registrar’s Office by an assigned arrival time (e.g., 5:30 p.m.), with the formal processional beginning promptly.

For the academic regalia, CTC requires all graduates to wear a black graduation gown; older gowns (purchased before December 2012) are explicitly not permitted. Columbus Technical College Graduates must purchase a new cap and gown from the Campus Store. Columbus Technical College Decorating caps is strictly forbidden, and “no stoles or regalia not affiliated with Columbus Technical College” are allowed during the ceremony.

Regarding the graduation cap, cap tassels, and switching, students wear their tassel on the left side of the mortarboard through the ceremony, then, when instructed as a group, move it to the right in the traditional “turning of the tassel” at the end.

Dress code guidance is also provided: dark shoes and dark slacks for men; and dark shoes, neutral hosiery, and a dark dress or skirt (that does not show under the gown) for women.

Importantly, I found no mention in the student handbook, catalog, or procedure documents of honor cords, colored stoles, or faculty regalia specific to Columbus Technical College — their graduation policy appears to emphasize uniform, black academic regalia without additional adornments.
