Five Towns College

The commencement ceremony at Five Towns College is a formal, in-person event that celebrates each graduate’s achievement. The ceremony is held in the College’s Performing Arts Center, with graduates required to assemble by 8 :30 a.m., and the processional begins promptly at the published start time. Participation in the ceremony is contingent upon timely arrival, correct academic regalia (cap, gown, hood as required), and cleared financial obligations.

Graduates must collect their academic robe (gown) and mortarboard (cap) in advance — typically during a pick-up period on campus. On the day of the ceremony, no regalia distribution is permitted. During the ceremony, after names are read and diplomas conferred, the “Turning of the Tassel” ritual occurs: graduates move the tassel from the right side of the cap to the left, signifying successful completion of their academic program.

In terms of attire, graduates are instructed to wear business-appropriate clothing beneath the gown. Comfortable shoes are advised (very high heels or flip-flops discouraged).
