Gateway Community and Technical College

Gateway Community and Technical College holds its annual commencement ceremony each spring (for the 2025‑2026 academic year, the ceremony is scheduled for May 14, 2026 at the Truist Arena at Northern Kentucky University). To be eligible to walk, students must submit a graduation application and RSVP, and purchase their cap and gown through the college’s bookstore or via the online vendor.

For the ceremony dress code, all graduates are required to wear a distinctive blue graduation gown and cap. GCTC’s website explicitly states that “blue caps and gowns” are required for graduation. Honor recognition is built into the ceremony: eligible degree and diploma graduates receive honor cords at check‑in — there is no need to purchase cords separately for qualifying graduates. If a student belongs to an honor society (for example, Phi Theta Kappa — PTK), that student may wear a stole or cord provided by the society, but must arrange this with the group’s advisor before commencement.

Because GCTC is a community and technical college granting associate degrees and diplomas, there is no public mention of master’s‑ or doctoral‑level regalia on its website. The regalia policy appears designed for associate‑level degrees, and does not include hoods or advanced academic‑dress distinctions. On the publicly available pages, there is no published color code chart for tassels, stoles, or cords tied to disciplines, majors, or faculty — beyond the standard blue gown and cap. For any specialized stoles or discipline‑specific regalia, students are directed to consult the bookstore or honor societies.

In summary: Gateway Community and Technical College’s commencement tradition centers on a required blue graduation gown and cap, mandatory purchase of regalia, and automatic distribution of honor cords to qualified graduates. Additional cords or stoles via honor societies (like PTK) are allowed when approved. The college does not publicly support master’s‑level regalia, and there is no documented color scheme for tassels or stoles by discipline.
