Glenville State University

Glenville State University holds commencement ceremonies twice a year (May and December) for degree conferrals; summer graduates may attend the May ceremony if eligible. All students walking at commencement are required to wear appropriate academic regalia — cap, gown, tassel, and hood if applicable. The academic regalia (cap and gown) is available for purchase from the Pioneer Campus Store. Students are also expected to wear business‑casual attire under their gowns (dress shirt/blouse, long pants or skirt/dress, closed‑toe shoes).

Regarding honor cords and stoles, GSU policy allows a gold honor stole for students graduating with institutional academic honors. Additional honor cords may be worn by members of nationally recognized academic honor societies — provided the society is recognized by the University and the cords are consistent with formal attire. Students who are members of other student organizations may wear a white honor cord representing that participation.

As for faculty regalia, faculty are required to wear full academic regalia for commencement and convocation; mortarboards or tams are optional. Borrowed robes from the institution’s limited supply may be used if necessary, but if a faculty member’s graduate‑degree granting institution does not supply regalia, they must order their own — indicating adherence to standard academic‑regalia traditions rather than bespoke school‑specific color coding.

Overall, Glenville State adopts a traditional academic‑regalia framework: a standard cap and gown for graduates, with optional honor stoles for high‑GPA students, cords for recognized honor societies or clubs, and full gown/hood regalia for faculty — but there is no publicly available, institution‑wide color chart that assigns specific gown, tassel, or stole colors by degree, discipline, or academic major.
