Lower Columbia College

Lower Columbia College’s annual commencement ceremony celebrates academic achievement with a formal presentation of diplomas, student speakers, opening remarks and Scholastic Achievement Awards. Graduates must complete the RSVP form to reserve their graduation cap and gown, which are provided at no extra cost through student fees. Cap and gown pick‑up occurs the week before the ceremony at the LCC Student Center Room 216. Guests can attend without limit, and the event is live‑streamed for remote viewing.

The academic regalia for Lower Columbia College adheres to traditional US academic dress standards. Graduates wear a mortarboard graduation cap paired with a graduation gown appropriate to their degree level. A silk cord with a tassel attaches at the center of the cap. Tassel and cord colors may be black or reflect the graduate’s field of study, following standard academic color conventions. Only doctoral candidates may wear a gold metallic tassel and cord, while others typically use black or discipline‑associated hues.

Students earning an associate degree with a GPA of 3.5 or higher receive an honor cord at regalia pickup. Honor cords symbolize academic excellence and are worn over the graduation gown during the commencement procession and ceremony. While Lower Columbia College does not publicly list specific stole color guidelines in available handbooks, many institutions permit stoles in school or organizational colors to represent affiliations, honors, or academic achievements.

This academic regalia guide helps graduates prepare for commencement with the correct cap, gown, tassels sets, faculty regalia references, and honor accessories for a memorable graduation experience.
