Michigan Technological University

Michigan Technological University (MTU) celebrates its commencement ceremony with a formal procession where all graduates are required to wear approved graduation cap, graduation gown, and tassel sets as part of their academic regalia. Undergraduate honor cords are distributed at regalia pickup from the Campus Store and reflect achievement levels determined by the Registrar’s Office. MTU also allows recognized student organizations to wear custom color cords or stoles chosen by the group. Certain cord colors are reserved (e.g., veteran red-white-blue and university athlete black & gold) and should not be used by other groups.

Graduates order their cap, gown, and tassel sets through the MTU Campus Store; rental regalia are not offered. Orders must be placed early to ensure arrival prior to the ceremony, and sets include the gown, SureFit graduation cap, and tassel. Pickup is typically the week before commencement.
