Purchase College

Purchase College Commencement & Academic Regalia

Purchase College (SUNY Purchase) hosts annual Commencement ceremonies to honor graduates from all programs. Graduates are required to order official academic regalia, which includes a black graduation gown and mortarboard graduation cap, shipped directly from the approved vendor. Souvenir or non-official gowns are not permitted for participation.

While standard black gowns and caps are provided, tassels, stoles, and honor cords are optional and can be purchased separately by graduates. The College does not publicly provide a discipline-specific color chart for tassels, stoles, or hoods. Graduates can select additional adornments to reflect honors or personal achievements.

Faculty and staff participating in Commencement ceremonies wear academic regalia that reflects their highest earned degree. Regalia rental for faculty, including gown, hood, and cap, is available through the approved vendor to maintain formal uniformity during the ceremony.
