Quincy University

Quincy University celebrates commencement with distinguished academic tradition — every graduate wears official academic regalia including a classic black graduation gown and mortarboard graduation cap. Undergraduates complement their gown with a white stole bearing the QU seal (or a seal‑specific stole for specialized colleges), while graduate‑level candidates wear hoods signifying their degree and academic discipline.

Approved honor cords are distributed to students graduating with honors (Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude), as well as to members of recognized honor societies and approved organizations. These cords add symbolic recognition of academic or organizational achievement.

Graduate students and faculty wear full faculty regalia — gowns, hoods or tams — with hoods lined in Quincy University colors and trimmed in velvet indicating the field of study (e.g. education, business, humanities, theology, science, etc.). This ensures that the academic regalia reflects both institutional identity and disciplinary tradition.

To ensure consistency in the ceremony, Quincy University requires regalia to be ordered in advance — including full cap, gown and tassels sets — via the graduation application. Regalia must be picked up at the Registrar’s Office or campus bookstore before the commencement date, so that every graduate appears formally uniform.
