UW‑Green Bay Commencement & Academic Regalia

The commencement ceremony at UW‑Green Bay celebrates graduates’ academic achievements with a formal procession and staging of degrees. Graduates are required to wear the approved academic dress consisting of a graduation cap, graduation gown and tassel sets. According to the university’s official “Commencement Apparel & Regalia Policy”, all participating students must wear a black gown and black mortarboard cap.

For associate and bachelor’s degree candidates the specified gown color is solid black with a zip‑front design, and the tassel for bachelor’s candidates is the university‑specific tassel (in the official school colours) worn on the right side of the cap until degrees are conferred, after which the tassel is moved to the left. Master’s degree candidates also wear a black gown and black mortarboard cap, but the tassel remains on the left side throughout the ceremony, and a master’s hood is required (sold separately).
