Copper Mountain College

At Copper Mountain College the commencement ceremony honours graduates in full academic regalia, reflecting the tradition of academic dress and the importance of graduation gown, graduation cap, faculty regalia and tassels sets. Graduates and candidates wear the approved black graduation cap and gown, available through the Campus Bookstore beginning in April. No other uniforms or non‑standard attire may be substituted.

The academic regalia standards adhere to the guidelines of the American Council on Education (ACE). Gowns are not to be decorated, and only a standard tassel is permitted on the graduation cap. Leis, RN or VN pins, and non‑honours adornments are not allowed.

For honor robes and recognitions: membership in Phi Theta Kappa is denoted by a gold honour stole, a blue and gold double honour cord, and/or a gold tassel. The gold key medallion is not permitted. Membership in Alpha Beta Gamma is signified by a sapphire‑blue satin stole. Student Veterans may wear red, white & blue recognition cords. Service Club wears copper & teal cords; EOPS silver; CalWORKs gold; ASCMC peacock blue; the Communication Club white, maroon & teal; the American Sign Language Club red, black & silver cords.

The ceremony is designed to maintain decorum and a consistent look for the graduation faculty, student participants and the audience. The ceremony invites graduates to display personalization of the mortarboard cap (top of the cap only, no 3‑D embellishments and ample room for the regular tassel) while preserving the integrity of the gown‑and‑cap sets. Gowns must remain plain and undecorated.

For guests and family members the event features limited bleacher seating and parking, with graduates limited to five guests each. Graduates should indicate if any guest has disability needs via the Intent to Participate form.

Celebrate your Copper Mountain College (CMC) graduation in style with the officially sanctioned academic regalia. The college’s commencement requirements reflect long-standing tradition and respect for academic ceremony, and this summary covers details on your graduation gown, graduation cap, tassel, honor cords, stoles, and faculty regalia.

  • Graduation Gown & Cap (Bachelor): – All graduates wear a **black academic gown** as per CMC commencement guidelines. – The mortarboard **graduation cap** is black and must be worn flat. – No decorations on the gown are permitted; adherence to traditional academic regalia is strictly enforced.
  • Tassel (Bachelor): – The standard CMC tassel color is **gold** for honor students (Phi Theta Kappa), denoted by a gold tassel. – Non‑honor tassels follow the default black academic tradition.
  • Honor Cords & Stoles (Undergraduate): – **Phi Theta Kappa** members wear a **gold honor stole**, a **blue & gold double cord**, and/or a **gold tassel**. – **Alpha Beta Gamma** members have a **sapphire-blue satin stole**. – **Student Veteran** recognition: red, white & blue cords. – Other program/club cords: Service Club (copper & teal), EOPS (silver), CalWORKs (gold), ASCMC (peacock blue), Communication Club (white, maroon & teal), American Sign Language Club (red, black & silver).
  • Master’s Regalia (Cap, Gown, Tassel, Hood): – Master’s graduates at CMC also wear the standard black gown and mortarboard cap. – Tassel remains consistent with bachelor‑level: gold for honor, standard otherwise. – There is no publicly published “hood color by discipline” for master’s on the CMC site; only basic regalia is specified.
  • Faculty Regalia: – Faculty participating in Commencement report early to robe and lineup; they wear traditional academic robes, but CMC does not publicly detail specific faculty regalia color or hood design on its site.
  • Other Discipline Regalia Colors: – Copper Mountain College’s publicly available commencement policy does **not list specialized hood colors** or color‑coded regalia by academic discipline. – The emphasis remains on uniform black gowns and caps, with cords/stoles limited to honor societies and student organizations.

This adherence to classic academic regalia—from the black graduation gown and cap to the modest but meaningful honor cords and stoles—ensures a dignified and cohesive look for all participants at Copper Mountain College’s commencement ceremony.
